Introduction
Hein and his team has been involved with dry ice blast cleaning since 2008. SFC DIB (Dry Ice Blasting) one of only 3 recognized companies in South African that offer the unique service of dry ice blast cleaning. We have carefully positioned ourselves to service specific industries where a decrease in turn around and down-time has a huge effect on production and especially productivity. Our service provide our clients with a competitive advantage as they have the ability to complete cleaning and maintenance in a fraction of the time compared to traditional methods. In most cases our service can be performed in-situ while there is often no need for the total dis-assembly and re-assembly of the equipment to be cleaned. An additional advantage is that dry ice blast cleaning is environmentally friendly and no access waste streams are created during the process. We use no harsh chemicals and our process can be ‘custom made’ to suit the specific application for our clients.

The Process …. In a nutshell
In principle, dry ice blasting is similar to other forms of shot blasting such as sand or grit blasting.
The main difference is that the medium differs (Co2) and that much more control can be used with the correct use of the size of pellet, the airflow and also the nozzle used for specific applications.
Where normal shot blasting would use a ‘chisel’ effect to remove the contaminant, DIB used the process called reverse fracturing or thermal shock.
The -79C of the dry ice instantly freezes the contaminant and breaks the bond between the contaminant and the substrate and lifts it away…more like a ‘spatula’ effect.
